Los Carpinteros (The Carpenters) have created some of the most important work to emerge from Cuba in the past decade.
The trio; Marco Castillo, Dagoberto Rodríguez, and, until June 2003, Alexandre Arrechea renounced the notion of individual authorship and created Los Carpinteros as a way to recreate the guild tradition of artisans and skilled labourers The group work across disciplines of product, furniture architectural design and sculpture.
They draw their inspiration from the physical world—particularly that of furniture, exploring contradictions among object and function
as well as practicality and uselessness.
