This house by Dan Phillips is a composite design based on every house that Dan had ever seen in story books. Dan Phillips and his wife Marsha set up 'The Phoenix Commotion' as a local building initiative to prove that constructing homes with recycled and salvaged materials has a viable place in the building industry. The process uses only apprentice labour and teaches skills to anyone willing to work and learn. Due to the myriad of construction materials used no two homes are alike. The Phoenix Commotion targets housing for single parents, artists, and families with low income. The home owner is required to participate in the planning and construction of their own home. The result is a person/family who have a relationship with their home and are empowered not only by having acquired valuable knowledge and skills but also having 'built' their way into a community. video
