New York Public Library

The New York Public Library has made  180,000 public domain images accessible and searchable. Including photographs, etchings, watercolors, sheet music, maps, stereoscopic views, and other images dating back as far as the 11th century. This resource is full of wonders my first search of 'trees' came up with fascinating pictures of the felling of giant red woods and this wonderful collection of cigarette cards showing British trees and their uses from 1927.
