Toni Porto Suanzes

Creating a piece is a game with a part of enjoyment and a part of suffering. The challenge is to know how to stop. I have a very clear idea in my head of what I want to do, and sometimes it is difficult to finish it, I could always add or remove something else. Sometimes, I leave the work unfinished for a while, I let it rest, I look at it, and then I know how to finish it. Toni Porto Suanzes⠀

Javier de Riba I

Javier de Riba loves geometry and pattern, making interventions on unloved and mundane objects and spaces. He has been using varnish to transform gathered wood from the streets of Barcelona and using varnish to give it new beauty.
"This project is based in a study on varnish and wood: varnish as a medium that reveals a surface, and varnish as a material that reveals itself. In some cases, the varnish is made visible when worked into patterns - in others, it functions as a window to the wood that lies beneath. The exposition includes various different works which juxtapose the materials’ density and transparency - distinct dialogues between the wood and varnish. Through the collection of abandoned hardwood in the streets, later sanded and revarnished in layers, the works show the value we give to the ‘skin’ of an object, and how varnish can act, not only as an adornment, but as a medium of expression. A material that both dresses and undresses the wood. " Javier de Riba

Francisco Leiro

Francisco Leiro is a Spanish sculptor whose carved figures have great power and dynamism. His figures have a bulk, often rough cubicity, that matched with the emotional sensitivity of their expressions and body language makes them a force of nature. Thank you Dom.

Miguel Angel Blanco

For the love of nature, Miguel Angel Blanco's 'Library of the Forest' is a delicious appreciation of nature and its wonder. Miguel's findings, collections and interpretations make you appreciate even the possibility of the pine cone as not only a profound beauty, but as a component for design.

"My work, all of which arises from this participation, is not explanatory:
It is a constantly growing compilation of discoveries, of revelations, of invocations, of spells, of ritual ceremonies, kept ALIVE in the box-books that make up my Forest’s Library. Even though I have made different kinds of drawings, sculptures and engravings, I deem the Library my most important creation. It was begun in winter, 1985, and is nowadays made up of 1.078 box-books. I will probably continue working on it for many years. The Library as sculpturing life project, a work open to nature’s vastness, carried out with the same slowness and steadiness with which a tree grows, a symbiosis between the right angle and the biologic form. I share with oriental art the wish to achieve an organic composition, in which fullness represents substance and emptiness the circulation of vital breaths, joining in this way the finite and the infinite, like creation itself. Maybe the goal of the work could be to understand the universe’s secret language, to create a great mystery from the starting point of a piece of fern or a drop of resin. To be an echo of the ephemeral. To establish communication with the universe and receive an answer from it."  Miguel Ángel Blanco

Stone Designs

A low level dinning experience designed for the Japanese market by Stone Designs of Madrid. Stone Designs is the studio of Cutu Mazuelos and Eva Prego established in 1995
"The Stick collection meets the Japanese brand Actus’ need of providing the Japanese market with a table that allows people to have meetings, eat and have fun around it, but the difference with this table is that it has lower proportions as usual. The Stick collection was born from this idea of having a space to share and relax. On it we have used a walking stick as an archetype to support the whole table. Due to the reduce height, it could easily look too heavy and that is why all dimensions have been calculated very carefully. As a result we get a light table with natural finishes that inspires and invites to sit down around it, and share a dinner or the best summer anecdote." Stone Designs

Jorge Penadés

This is Nomadic Furniture by Jorge Penadés, an exciting young Spanish designer who pushes concepts of furniture beyond any of its usual parameters. Nomadic furniture is made without screws, glue or nails and is easy to assemble and disassemble, the structure depends upon it's classical wooden joinery. (thank you)
"Jorge Penadés intuitively attempts to push the boundaries between a space and the user's interaction with it. His work implies a continuous defiance of preconceived ideas in this scope, leading to a deeper involvement of both designer and user. As an expression of Penadés's philosophy, his work permanently invites to look for distinct perspectives, to reformulate the questions in order to get different answers". Paula Guisado

Company and Company

Love this clever clean wonderful design called 'Corner Ladder' by Company and Company.
"Our homes are getting smaller and we have less storing space. This project comes from the need to simplify an everyday object to a minimum.
A ladder is a domestic standard tool that is rarely used . The idea was to be able to fit it in any corner, so as to simplify and increase its use and basic operation."

Company and Company is a young creative start up company in Barcelona with Allan Lagaspi, Neus Company, Juan Pablo Ospina and Jorge Freyre who share a vision of good design and collaboration. (thank you).

Estudionomada

This canteen space designed by Estudio Nomada creates an intimate space with tree like branchings from the tables. "In Galicia and the rest of Spain, during the holidays we put long tables under the trees and have gatherings there. We want people in the canteen to feel like they are protected by the trees and part of the community. That's why we have two long tables, so they can share a meal and experience; instead of being individuals, they are part of a celebration." Enrique de Santiago
