Jalmari Laihinen

Broken is a range of furniture based on the faults in wood by Finnish designer Jalmari Laihinen is a collaboration between the maker and the material.

"Wood is an organic material, built to be a trunk of a tree. It is a unique material with a strong character. It changes dimensions as the ambient humidity changes, it has knots, and defects, it cracks and breaks. These are properties which are often considered unwanted, but they offer a lot of opportunities." Jalmari Laihinen

Noora Liesimaa

Noora Liesimaa has just graduated with a master’s degree in spatial and furniture design from Aalto University, Finland her work was part of the University's stand in the Milan Furniture Fair this year. Noora's simple sculptural forms are based on the stern of a boat, they are large, solid, uncompromising pieces that I think would be great enlarged for out in the landscape.

Woodism

Woodism is a group of Finnish designers who's collection consists of unique items,
custom-made products and furniture produced in small series from garden and park trees that are diseased and not fit for lumber. allows for a versatile use of wood.
In this use of local sustainable timber a twig, a crack, a special graining or
edge of the bark can be a source of inspiration for design. This responce to the unique nature of the timber allows the character of each tree to be reflected in the result, giving rise to the
unique nature of the objects. This cuckoo clock is designed by Tapio Anttila
