Eben Cavanagh Rautenbach

Some incredible examples of pyrography by Scottish based South African artist Eben Cavanagh Rautenbach who is based in Innerleithen.

Angus Clyne

I visited the workshop of Angus Clyne this weekend and saw some of his beautiful hand turned vessels made from locally sourced timber. 

Angus is based in Ballinluig, Perthshire. At his workshop/gallery he exhibits his vessels, bowls, sculpture and landscape photography. Angus also offers woodturning courses at his workshop.

Lee Borthwick

Lee Borthwick's work was launched at Tent last year and she has been commissioned to make her wonderful Mirror Tapestries for Anthropologie. using cross sections of branches and laser cut mirror, her textures and combinations of materials are fantastic. Lee Borthwick studied textiles and surface design at Gray's School of Art, RGU and then completed an MA in Constructed Textiles, specialising in mixed media at The Royal College of Art. Bottom image

Map Table

This table is a map table of Edinburgh by Edinburgh based company Birky Designs, however it is a table that can be made with a map of  whatever special place in the world you would like. It is crafted from solid hard wood and uses a blend of traditional and modern techniques. The map table will be on display at the Clerkenwell Design Week.

Orkney Chairs

I wanted to explore how some of the techniques learnt at the master class have traditionally been utilised in crafting furniture. Here are some examples of Orkney chairs made from oat straw and drift wood by The Orkney Hand Crafted Furniture Company. On their website you can watch videos of various stages of the crafting of these wonderful pieces of furniture.

Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley

Love these soft seat scoops like the insides of bean pods. They are the work of Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley who have been collaboratively designing and making furniture and other functional woodwork for over twenty years.
