"Although a formal investigation, these pieces also allude to age and new growth, artifice and natural and the fun of marking the wall with and 'X'.   In Japanese tea gardens, an arrangement of similar bushes will be placed on either side of an archway to create a mirror effect.  The intent is to subtly remind the participants to be present.  Similarly, the X form appears to contradict itself when seen from the side view - especially when moving, so that the part of the X form which is furthest away appears larger than the side closest to the viewer.  I am exploiting this and other visual conundurms in the spirit of Chashitsu Architecture."
