StilNovo are a California based company who make furniture using  recycled French oak wine barrels.

" The chemical properties of oak itself play a significant role in winemaking, affecting the colour, flavor, and texture of the wine; over time many of the oak properties get "leached" out of the barrel and after 3 to 5 vintages the barrel is ready to be discarded. That's when we rescue, recycle and transform them. The natural arch of a barrel stave confers striking finesse to the silhouette of each of our designs. The barrel's metal hoop is integrated whenever possible."

Thirty designers are challenged to reuse casks found in  cellars by Maurizio and Davide Riva..
Matteo Thun released the bent oak staves from the metal rings that hold them and recycled them into a wooden screen.
Through simple details, hinges, spacers and pivots, the staves form new linear profiles. The cask is reincarnated in a very different aesthetic and function.
