Ernst Gamperl II

Ernst Gamperl turns wood when it is wet. In this way he creates unique designs working with the natural bulges and organic indentations that emerge out of the wood as it dries. 

"I cut the piece and then allow it to dry, I keep it under water while working and allow the warping process to happen - so the wood grows a certain way naturally." 

Ernst is sympathetic to the timbers fissures, fractures, branches and growths working with them creating beautiful sympathetic repairs and controls as part of his vessels.

This spring Ernst Gamperl was announced as winner of the Loewe Craft Prize.

 Ernst Gamperl's 'Objects in Oak'. Having turned or carved a vessel Ernst then applies clay, earth and stone powder which on combining with the natural tannic acid of the wood, changes the colour and texture. He then removes this layer until he achieves the desired finish and fixes it with beeswax from his own bees.

Anna Quentin

Anna Quentin is a product designer living and working in Berlin. this is her design Wipp.

Werner Aisslinger

Werner Aisslinger supported by German chemical company BASF has designed a stackable monoblock chair made with natural fibers using technology from the car manufacturing industry. Hemp and kenaf (an ecological glue) are compressed with a water-based thermoset binder to form a durable, lightweight, strong and environmentally friendly piece of furniture.

Christoph Finkel is a German wood turner who turns incredible bowls working with the unique qualities of each timber.

Christoph Finkel finds the trees in his local area and their way of growing, their history and character interest him. It is a long process of understanding and honour from the moment he picks out the trees until the finished piece. 

Meike Harde

Wrapped Pleated and folded Meike Harde has created a new form of upholstery by manipulating flat foam matting. Creating a strong firm core with a flexible soft surface. The design avoids permanent attachment of the foam meaning that when the upholstery is worn it can be removed and replaced easily.

Kia Linke II

Kia Linke has been exploring the idea of growing roots in a mold, to shape the organic forms into a usable furniture. Kia's idea is that you could grow fast growing plant roots like bamboo into furniture forms. These are his experiments with hyacinths and grass.
