It has been a long time since I featured the work of Henrique Oliveira but every time I stumble upon his creations I am filled with renewed wonder at the complexity, monumentality and structure of his work. It's shredded quality, a metaphor of destruction or rejuvenation is powerful and moving.

Ryo Chohashi

Japanese furniture designer Ryo Chohashi integrates recycled elements into his designs contrasting the new timber with the patina of worn older timbers.

James McNabb I

"The City Series is a collection of wood sculptures that represent a woodworker's journey from the suburbs to the city. Each piece depicts the outsider's perspective of the urban landscape. Made entirely of scrap wood, this work is an interpretation of making something out of nothing. Each piece is cut intuitively on a bandsaw. The result is a collection of architectural forms, each distinctly different from the next." James McNabb

James McNabb is a Philadelphia based craftsman who has moved from furniture into sculpture, creating fantastic metropolis from scraps of wood.

Paul Anderson I

The wonderful benches by Paul Anderson have great character looking cobbled together, wonkey and simply beautiful looking like they have time traveled from times of care, handcraft and clever thrift.

"My love of discarded materials have been powerful influences: I use mostly relic oak from defunct barn roofs, boats, gates and fences to make elemental thrones, tables, daybeds and benches which, although they have an ancient, recently unearthed quality about them, work well in contemporary settings. The furniture is rugged, risky, energetic - functional but sculptural. The means of construction is usually very evident – maybe that keeps the work visceral and emphatically un-glib." David Watson

American furniture maker David Watson delights in repurposing reclaimed wood enjoying the different timbers and the patina of the timbers life be it nail holes or paint. The resulting table tops or cabinets often look more like abstract art compositions as they are so beautiful. (the frog is a visitor to David's workshop).

Daniele Papuli

Tree rings have sparked the imagination of Daniele Papuli in his range of 'Cartodendri' stools that are formed from tightly bound magazines.

"CARTOdendrometrìa is the formation and classification of new morphological designs, meant for desks or stalls, and built as ring-section lamellar volumes, inlaid with various types of polychrome lightweight papers chosen for their peculiar characteristics.
From newspapers - the desks made with Corriere della Sera strips chosen for their colouring since 2007 - to lightweight coloured papers - black for the outside of the stalls - to multicoloured sections." Daniele Papuli

Amy Hunting

Factory waste was collected in Denmark and then made into a furniture collection by Norwegian designer Amy Hunting.
This collection is made entirely out of reclaimed wood and consist of a chair, a book box and 12 lamps that fit inside each other like babooshka dolls. All the pieces are hand made and unique.

Stephen Fawlkes

Stephen Fawlkes is a sculptor based in Brooklyn New York who uses completely reclaimed timber to make these works, that play with spacial perception and perspective.

Ecologica Malibu

Mariana Schechter who with a degree in design from Panamericana Art and Design School and a passion for the environment and hand crafted artistry founded the collective Ecologica Malibu.
This close knit collective works like a family to create and sell beautiful hand crafted upcycled pieces of furniture.
"I wanted to fuse my beliefs about sustainability, nature and the environment with the individuality of humanity. That’s how my business was born. Every piece of my furniture tells a story, has a history, and is as unique as every person who walks the earth."

Nicolai Czumaj-Bront

“I want to bring an idea down to its essence without sacrificing what makes it desirable. With this in mind, I try to create solutions that are both simple and exciting.” Nicolai Czumaj-Bront 

This collection Found by Nicolai Czumaj-Bront is formed from reclaimed materials made into stools, chairs and tables.

Coyaa

 

A patchwork of plywood and a hotchpotch of assemblage that is designed around making dens and spaces for children and pets. Coyaa is a company with a strong ethical base, the materials they use are the scraps of manufacturing which makes all of their pieces unique. As a company they employ mainly people disadvantaged by physical or mental disability who normally find it hard to find employment.

Ariele Alasko I

Ariel Alasko uses selvaged flooring to create marquetry style tables, headboards and interiors, Ariel also makes incredible installations from unusual materials like eucalyptus leaves.

"I’m a builder, a fixer, and a do-it-myselfer. My favorite things in life are big tools, old wood, good pasta, and dumpster diving. I enjoy being a mixture of things: the woman who cooks and bakes, and the girl who runs table saws and nail guns, builds furniture, carries around screwdrivers in her purse, and can fix just about anything. Brian Griffiths

Brian Griffiths creates legend from skipped furniture. His monumental sculptures are the equivalent of cardboard box space ships. Composite ships and wagons constructed from wardrobes and chests of draws Brian Griffiths uses their authenticity to invent a more exotic history.

Claire Danthois

Claire Danthois makes furniture from old ladders, bed and gates. The wood for this specific chair has been cut into ninety separate pieces, drilled with 360 holes and threaded together with cable. Claire trained at Plymouth University and has since gone on to do projects worldwide for the likes of Newton Vineyards, California and Global Green, New Orleans.

James Steidle

This beautiful Bee Hive has been made by James Steidle from recycled cedar fencing posts. James makes beautiful cases, drawing, painting and laptop cases and is currently making a canoe.

George Peterson
