Miguel Angel Blanco

For the love of nature, Miguel Angel Blanco's 'Library of the Forest' is a delicious appreciation of nature and its wonder. Miguel's findings, collections and interpretations make you appreciate even the possibility of the pine cone as not only a profound beauty, but as a component for design.

"My work, all of which arises from this participation, is not explanatory: 

It is a constantly growing compilation of discoveries, of revelations, of invocations, of spells, of ritual ceremonies, kept ALIVE in the box-books that make up my Forest’s Library. Even though I have made different kinds of drawings, sculptures and engravings, I deem the Library my most important creation. It was begun in winter, 1985, and is nowadays made up of 1.078 box-books. I will probably continue working on it for many years.The Library as sculpturing life project, a work open to nature’s vastness, carried out with the same slowness and steadiness with which a tree grows, a symbiosis between the right angle and the biologic form. I share with oriental art the wish to achieve an organic composition, in which fullness represents substance and emptiness the circulation of vital breaths, joining in this way the finite and the infinite, like creation itself. Maybe the goal of the work could be to understand the universe’s secret language, to create a great mystery from the starting point of a piece of fern or a drop of resin. Mel Kendrick

Mel Kendrick is a sculptor of wood, rubber, bronze and concrete. This is a selection of his timber works which Mel hinges, joins and stacks sections of tree trunks, shaping, painting and them into crazy; monolithic totem pole, jigsaws.

Roland Fraser II

Roland Fraser again composes his furniture and work from harvested reclaimed timber, utilising the marks of its previous incarnation to add to the beauty of his craft. Rolands work is also part of this years VAS exhibition in Edinburgh.

My wooden constructions are a synthesis of assemblage, collage and traditional craftsmanship. Timber is culled from old furniture carcases, farm buildings and skips. I select pieces that have an accumulation of surface markings and general evidence of human traffic. Traces from missing locks, hinges and structural joints also have a particular resonance for me as they refer to previous incarnations. This visceral combination of wear and history imbues the material with an almost totemic quality. Roland Fraser

Mona Hatoum II

Mona Hatoum often uses furniture in her sculpture and installation work.

"I like to use furniture in my work because it is about everyday life. Some of the objects are vaguely useful, but often they turn into uncanny objects. Australian artist Anila Quayyum Agha’s light instalation with metal fretwork made me think about how a fret work screen could transform a space with shadow.

Perrine Lievens I

Parisian Perrine Lievens has made some poetic furniture/sculpture. He creates new realities, in this piece he has performed a miracle and by planted willow cuttings.into the timber made the table alive again.

Richard Tuttle

Richard Tuttle's mixed media compositions often incorporate plywood and fibre board. Furniture? no, but what I wanted to share about Richards work is the inspiration he gets from scraps of materials and the interesting shapes and compositions that he allows to form.

Ted Lott

Architecture on a furniture scale by Ted Lott. Ted Lott studied woodworking and furniture design at Maine College of Art but he is using these skills in a more esoteric way in these fantastical domestic 'furniture' scale, architectural compositions.
"When viewing woodworking in the context of objects made with wood; housing, particularly stick frame construction, emerges as possibly the most widespread use of the material throughout the modern world. Zimoun

The sound of 25 woodworms magical and the stuff of nightmares. When timber is imported the wood is listened to to detect sound of infestation. I have to say . . . isn't nature wonderful!

Michelle Peterson-Albandoz

Michelle Peterson-Albandoz grew up in forested lands of Connecticut and Puerto Rico. This formative experience of nature made her hyper aware of the effect humans have on the environment. Living in a big city like Chicago she became aware of the constant cycle of construction and destruction. Michelle harvests and reuses these discarded elements and reassembles them into patterned and rhythmic compositions.

Patrick Berube

Patrick Bérubé's Incidence installation at Montreal's Gallerie SAS. This is a beautiful and subtle installation that looks like just a toy ship in a gallery, until you notice that the wood of the floor has been changed to mirror the wake behind the ship. (Thanks)

With this piece Damian has created meaning, the visual meaning of a fallen chair becoming upright like Duchamp's Nude descending staircase,
Damian has rendered into reality, this movement.
His work is the product of a restless mind, one that like a child, has not settled into acceptance but questions everything, he is an amazing artist.
