Jonathan Rose

Jonathan Rose's 'segment one' table is a modular dining table made from oak and sycamore. it is designed as one of three tables that can be arranged as a circle or in a linear form. Jonathan works from his workshop on Deeside in Aberdeen using mostly native Scottish hardwoods. Jonathan's aim with his designs is to make a visual and tactile impact, and he certainly achieved this with his segment table at the Dovecot. The passion and joy at the problem solving, creativity, design and craft of all the furniture makers involved in this exhibition was very inspiring and uplifting, it is a great exhibition.

John Galvin

It was a great pleasure to meet John Galvin at the Contemporary Scottish Furniture Design Exhibition, as it was many of the wonderful exhibitors. John has had a whirlwind year being featured as part of The Collect Exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery and an article in Wallpaper Magazine about his collaboration with Nord Architects. John is very much a contemporary designer of very stylish furniture, his work is beautifully crafted with incredible attention to detail, stunning.

Contemporary Scottish Furniture Design Exhibition

Unstable Stool by Angus Ross
This exhibition at The Dovecot, Edinburgh opened this evening, it is a fantastic exhibition and the opening was busy bustling and exciting. The visitors were treated to the work of 26 of Scotland's leading furniture makers, to witness the love, care and skill of fine craftsmanship, to experience the joy of objects made with passion out of wonderful materials. The exhibition runs from now until the 16th October I cannot recommend it highly enough, if you can, please take the time and see this wonderful gathering of Scottish furniture designers. Over the next few days I will be featuring some of the fantastic work you can see there.
"Scottish design and craftsmanship has a well-earned reputation for quality all over the world.
Having seen for myself some of the work of members of the Scottish Furniture Makers Association, I can understand why. This exhibition will not only showcase Scottish ingenuity and skill, but demonstrate how this industry has taken centuries-old trades and made them cutting-edge expressions of twenty-first century drive. I wish them all the very best"
Alex Salmond, First Minister
